Using Armotherapy to Soothe Symptoms of Fibromyalgia

The main symptoms of fibromyalgia sufferers are in the musculo-skeletal system. Some of the main symptoms may include things like: tender spots, widespread pain, and muscle spasms.  Of course, there are other symptoms as well such as anxiety and depression that many fibromyalgia patients have as well. Sometimes, when you are able to lessen the physical discomforts of the disease it also helps to alleviate the non-physical symptoms as well, but not always. One of the great things about aromatherapy is that the essential oils actually help to relieve the psychological and emotional symptoms of the disease.

Some of the most common essential oils used in the management of fibromyalgia are rosemary, lavender, juniper, cypress, peppermint, clary sage, and chamomile. Lavender and rosemary are generally considered the most beneficial to those with fibromyalgia. Rosemary helps to treat fatigue, muscle soreness, as well as dysmenorrheal (painful menstruation) that often accompany the disease. Rosemary also helps to ease mental fatigue, anxiety, and depression. On the other hand, lavender helps to treat arthritis pain, such as muscle spasms, and heart palpitations. Lavender also helps to lessen nervous tension, anxiety, insomnia, anger, irritability, stress, tiredness, and manic depression.
